Wow, where did the time go? First there was Christmas, then there was the rush and panic to get all my projects ready for the Winter class schedule. Got that done. If you would like to see what and where I am teaching, check out "Those Blooming Bears Studio", I hang out with Cindy Ohama and she lets me teach at her studio. It is so much fun and the class atmosphere is so relaxed.

All I can say is .. Deadlines! wow, I never had so many! Viking woodcrafts has picked up some of my "Painting with Friends" designs to sell on their website. I had another design come out in Paintworks ...

Paintworks - Feb 2012

The I had a short break and a wonderful visit with my Mom, she came for 6 days so we did lots of shopping and fun stuff that included a trip to Canmore, Alberta for an afternoon at the Spa and lunch with my daughter. Now, I am gearing up for Vegas!

Winter is here!

Winter is here and time to get ready for Christmas. I just finished my annual christmas craft sale so now I can relax, paint for me and .... the big job ... Put my paint room back together. I do no know how it gets so out of control. Well I do actually, but we don't really want to go there.

I have finished this sweet "Fosty Recipes" design, this was originally painted by Terrye French for a special order and people loved it so much that they requested a pattern. So Terrye presented me with yet another awesome challenge. Paint the design and create a pattern .. with only a photograph. Well, I am pretty pleased, I love the way this turned out and she was so much fun to do. The e-pattern can be purchased here .

I am so excited! With the help and support of my good friend Terrye French and encouragement from my friends and students, I submitted some designs to PaintWorks Magazine ... and 2 got picked!

I signed my first 2 contracts on Friday for the Ornaments issue and the Christmas issue. Of course, I still will not believe it until I see the actual magazine. The ornament issue is due out in August, I am always excited for that issue anyway but this year more so. I am showing sneek peeks of the projects but you will have to wait until the magazine to see the whole thing :)

Le Petit Jardin! This is a new design from Tracy Moreau. I just love it. I don't usually paint bugs but I just loved the French Country/Shabby Chic feel of these designs and just could not wait to paint them. This is a new class that I will be teaching at Cindy Ohama's Those Blooming Bears.in August.

I think this is one of my favorites so far. This is a rework of an old painting that Terrye had done. I had to recreate the pattern from a photo. It was a fun challenge.

Las Vagas here I come. This will be my 4th year attending and I have to say that this is going to be the best year yet. This is the 20th anniversary of the painting convention and it has moved back to the Tropicana, The Tropicana has been completely renovated and looks great.

I have added a new class! This one will be taught at Artfully Toled Studio in March. This is a Tracy Moreau design that us painted on a wooden panel using Decoart Texture crackle and Decoart Americana paints. So fun, yet so simple. I added the knob to make it look like an old door. Too bad I don`t drink! LOL. I am going to rework one of Tracy`s Wine designs to make a companion piece to this.

It is that time again! OMG, why do I do this to myself every year? I ask myself that at this same time every and then I say "never again" after I do the show. But there is just something magical and exciting about doing a craft show. I have been doing this show for 10 years now. I have regular customers that come every year. It has been very interesting watching the industry change, there is very little handcrafted items at the shows now, but I am a diehard! All my treasures are hand painted, no "made in china" here LOL. This year I have acquired the assistance of my friend Kim Christmas who will be sharing my booth with me. We have managed to turn a convention trade floor into chaos so imagine what we can do the Craftsale sales floor. Curious? Drop buy if you are in the Vernon BC area.

I love these guys! This is a design by Betty Bowers and I painted them on an old rustic board. So cute!

and I finished this piece. It is a Terrye French design and is painted on a surface that I found at the second hand store. It is amazing how a coat of black paint will give you a blank slate to work off of. I sand, fix then paint all my found goodies with black. I added the candle holder to finish it off.

Here is is half way through August and I am still waiting for summer. I think this has been the worst summer I can remember. It is not that is has been overly cold, well some days, but there has been very little sunshine. I need my sunshine! So, anyway, it is good weather to bee painting snowmen, so I did another one for my craft sale. I love this guy, I do up a couple every year and these sell right away. I just got back from spending 16 days in Vernon BC with my Mom and some friends. I was glad to be there so I did not have to suffer through the non stop rain that we get every June. I have been busy trying some new things, I learned some basic quilting skills (thanks Kim) and am trying my hand at stitchery. Who knows where it will all lead but I am having fun learning. Here are a few projects that I have done over the past couple weeks. 2 Terrye French designs and my very first stitchery that I made into a pillow.

Home sweet home

We got home Sunday afternoon after a great week away in the Okanagan. It is always great to be home. I will be leaving again on June 3 but my hubby will be staying home this time. I am trying to get all my thoughts and ideas together so I can actually accomplish something. I get tons of ideas and inspiration when I go away then I get home and my mind goes absolutely blank. I think it is time to start writing things down LOL.

I am still enjoying my little vacation with my Mom. My husband and I are both from the Okanagan (British Columbia, Canada) so we like to make a trip together in the spring. I visit with my Mom in Vernon and he goes on to Penticton to spend a week with his Mom and help her out with the spring yard cleanup. I will be coming back by myself in another couple weeks to have a real holiday and spend more time with my Mom and, hopefully, my 95 year old Grandpa if he is perky enough to travel a bit. We like to get together and travel around visiting some of his old friends and places that he would like to visit. We had a great 8 day holiday last year so will see what we can find this year. He still drives and lives by himself, he is in amazing health but tires easily.
My classes are all finished until the fall. I will have some new classes posted by September so check back often to see what is new.

still waiting for spring ..

The snow melted, then the sun came out and played peek-a-book for the weekend now the wind is blowing in something cold. My husband and I went to the country "junk" stores on the weekend to look at the overpriced vintage look, made in china country prims, I love that stuff.. LOL. Anyway, it got my mind going that since I can paint that stuff, why not paint some little prim houses. So I did. These are a John Sliney design and they were so fun to paint.

It is that time between winter and spring, I think it is called "cabin fever" and I am pretty sure I have a good case of it now. The grass is greening, the trees are budding and just when I get excited, it snows ..

Just a little snow, but enough to burst that little bubble.

I have had some fun this month, I taught a few classes, did a little spring decorating, went to Fernie, BC for a girls painting weekend getaway, and had a great weekend seminar painting with Tracy Moreau. Here are some of the projects that I have been working on.

Viva Las Vegas

Wow, what a great time I had. I met so many of the designers and people that I have met in the past conventions too. It really is almost like a family reunion. I spent way to much money but it was all worth it. I came home with tons of new class projects and a head full of ideas. My travel companion was Kim Christmas from Kim Christmas designs, we had a great time together. I can't wait to go again next year. I started organizing and sorting all the goodies that I bought, I can't believe that all that came out of my suitcase LOL ... and there is still more in there somewhere.

This site is now going to be my new official website. I am so spoiled by the ease of this Blog that I have decided to use it to it full potential, well, actually when I figure the whole thing out anyway. I have added a page that will list all my upcoming classes and as the blog already has pictures of my past projects and my favorite links, it serves my needs.
Now to the real exciting stuff, I am still working with Decoart American SoSoft fabric paints and can honestly say that I am hooked. Here is another project that I did by Doxie Keller, I will be teaching this bag in April at Artfullytoled Studio.

Time flies ..

Sorry I have not been posting. After the holidays it seems to take a while to get back into the swing of things. I have been busy though, my daughter moved back to Calgary from SanFrancisco and we were storing her furnature so I have to do alot of rearranging so she could come and get it all. So then of course, I had to clean. I purchased my Mom a plane ticket for Christmas so she could come out for a few days, so of course I had to clean. We had a great visit, I spent a wonderful day shopping with my Mom and my daughter, we have not spent that kind of time together for years and it was awesome!

Now I am back teaching classes and am painting with Decoart SoSoft fabric paints, if you have not used them yet, they are fantastic. I took a couple classes with Doxie Keller at conventions and she teaches with them. I think I am hooked.

I am now counting down to the Las Vegas Painting convention, it is 4 weeks away and I can hardly wait.

Almost Christmas

Wow, I can't believe that it is almost Christmas already. I have finally put all my painting supplies back into the studio where they belong so that I can finish deccorating for the holidays. My daughter is on the last day of her driving journey from San Francisco back to Calgary. She has spent the last year working there and has decided to move back to Calgary ..yeah! .. and travel back and forth for work. Seems like a lot, but she will only need to go once a month for a few days and it should actually work out cheaper for her to live here than there. I can't tell you how excited I am to have her back close to home although I do have to share here now with her man LOL.

I have finished the last class piece that I will be teaching in January and I want to share it, I just love Shara Reiner designs and she has run a series of 4 seasonal chairs in the Paintworks magazines and I am doing all the chairs and creating a new dining room set, especially as all the furnature in my dining room right now belongs to my daughter. I can't wait to have the room back to decorate.

Good Morning,

I sure feels good to be back to normal, well, as normal as normal can be LOL. I finally finished a Renee Mullins Snowman that I started for myself. We had some snow on Monday and it has stayed and the sun has been shining so it is helping me to get in the mood for Christmas. I have been trying to plan my classes for the new year but can't seem to get away from painting snowmen ...

Craft Sale

Wow, where did the month go? I finally did my craft sale and it went really well. Once again I was the only booth with hand painting, and really the only booth with wood crafts. Lots of jewelry, linens, some sewing and lots of home business type stuff. My sales matched my busiest year which was 2006 and shows promise for the future. I am in decompress mode now, still painting but more in the mood to get my house back in order and decorate for christmas. My next big adventure will be the Las Vegas Convention in February, I am so excited :o)

The pressure is mounting, I have to have everything boxed up for shipping on Monday. I am really enjoying painting for the show this year, in past years I have always worked so it made it hard to balance my time. Fall classes have been going really well and it has been great to see alot of my regulars still coming to class and even some new painters this year. I have a wonderful group that supports and inspires me, I love them all. My students also have the pleasure of my 2 dogs, one is very hyper and the other just loves it if he can get a word in edgewise, I think they get more excited to see them than they do to see my most times. My house is a disaster, especially this time of year, I make little piles of things all over the house, I have piles for finished items, to be finished, want to finish, wish pile and more. It amazes me that my hubby puts up with it. Anyway, I have been very busy and here are some more pictures if finished items.

Wow, I have been busy. I did not really realize how many ornaments I have done until I decided to photograph them all. I have 2 weeks left, 2 weeks today I will be setting up. I am in panic mode, I do this to myself every year and always say to myself .."what do I do this? Never again", but I always do. I love to paint and one can not keep everything and how many friends and relatives can you keep giving to anyway? So that my reasoning.

I would like to thank everyone for such great comments, and welcome to all the people that are following my blog, it is very exciting.

Wow, time sure flies when I get into my painting mode. I have been busy, I have 4 weeks left until my annual craftsale so have been busy painting ornaments. My house is a disaster as I have bits and pieces scattered about, you know, all those finiky little bits that finish off ornaments. I love to paint, but I am not good at the building part, my brain turns to mush and my hands turn into a mitt full of thumbs LOL. Here is a sampling of some of the ornaments that I have finished so far, there are still tons more scattered about in various stages of completion and there is also a large pile waiting for all those finiky little bits. I am finding that if I park myself at the kitchen table with all my bits and listen to Sunday football that I can manage to put things together. Guess what I will be doing this Sunday?

Happy Thanksgiving

I am thankful today, and as I am everyday, for my family and my friends who all support me on a daily basis, quirks, faults and all. I am thankful to my Mom who is my best friend, my daughter who has made me so proud and to my husband who has allowed me to follow my passion for painting and has always been there in the good times and bad. I am also thankful to my neighbors who have kindly invited us to dinner tonight so I do not have to cook..

I wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Happy Snow Day

Brrr ...... it is a cold and snowy day today. I had a great weekend in Vernon, BC, I spent time with my Mom and my 94 year old Grandpa. My Grandpa still lives in his house and drives, he drove up from Vancouver to spend a few days with my Mom and me. I also spent a day painting with Kim Christmas, she had her first class in her new studio and it was awesome! She had a whole apple theme going on so lunch and snacks (all homemade) had apples in them. It was so much fun, I just have a few little touches to do then I will post a picture of my piece.
I have my first fall class at Artfullytoled Studio tonight, we are painting a spooky halloween piece, it is time to pull out the pumpkin socks and my woolies ..LOL
It was also great day to be indoors today with the weather being cold and snowey, I was really inspired to finish this Prim Santa, the best part is the diamond glitter sparkles that I add at the end. This is another great pattern from Terrye French.

Wow, it has been a while, time sure flies when you are having fun. I have been enjoying the fall weather, which I must say, has been way better than our summer. I have finished up some more of my craft sale pieces, hope you like them. Feedback would be greatly appreciated as it is hard to know what people will by these days. This will be my 9th year doing the Winter sale in Vernon, BC and have always had great success considering the amount of "made in China" items that seem to be showing up on a regular basis. It is really sad to see so few handcrafted items available at these sales. I think this may be my last year, but I say that every year LOL.

I'm back. I had a great time at the Paint in Alberta Convention. I met lots of wonderful people, spent lots of money and took some great classes. Now I am home and it is time to get back to work. I have classes starting this month and I have 3 weeks to finish painting some of my larger items for my Christmas craft sale. I have some pieces that are almost ready so will get my act together and post some pictures soon.

One more sleep! and I am off the the Paint in Alberta convention. I will be helping Heather Redick with her landscape class on Thursday, actually, I should clarify that, I will be manning her camera and handing out paint. Her painting style is absolutly gorgeous but not in my comfort zone, however, just watching her teach the class will be a great experience. I will also be helping my friend Kim Christmas with her two classes and these are in my comfort zone, but I just like hanging out with her because she is so fun. Of course, there will also be the trade floor and there will be lots of goodies for me to buy and people to meet that I can finally put faces to the names. It is going to be a great weekend. I will post some pictures when I get back.

Painting day Pot luck.
What a great day it was today. Some of my Friday night painting group ladies came over so we could paint a Monica Brint Halloween piece together. I supplied the studio and paints and they brought food ... lots of food. It was wonderful. We did not quite get finished but we had a lot of laughs. Painting with friends is so much better than painting alone.

Here I am! I have been busy finalizing the studio and schedule for the upcoming Fall painting classes. Sharlene is back from her summer in Regina and is getting ready to reopen her studio so I had to make sure that all my class pieces for her were ready first.

I am also excited to be getting ready for Paint in Alberta next week, I will be meeting and painting with Tracey Moreau, Kim Christmas, Debbie Cotton, Heather Redick and more. Plus shopping! The trade floor should have lots of great goodies for me to add to my stash.

I have finished up another piece that I may be offering as a December class. This is a Shara Reiner project, she is another one of my favorite designers.

Oh yeah! and another box of goodies arrived today from Cupboard distributing!

Meet "Harvey the Hare", he has lived in my front yard for months. I call him Harvey because for months I saw his little home in the garden but I never saw him. My husband always saw him and would tell me about this rather big rabbit that was not afraid of him. LOL, I finally saw him and now I see him every morning in his little home. Too cute. He hangs around until mid morning then goes of to do hare type things.

September is coming really fast so I have had to get my act together and finish up my fall class pieces and get my studio in order so I can start having my classes. One can really start to feel Fall in the air and I am once again inspired to paint. I seem to go in spurts. I still have not finished my kitchen, I made the mistake of putting all the painting supplies away so we have room to do other things and then now I am in the mood to paint fall and halloween. At least the doors are all that is left and I have them all sanded and ready to paint. I tell myself that it will not take long if I would just get started.

As I have mentioned, I love to paint fall and have a lot of favorite designers that inspire me but when it comes to halloween, one of my favorites is Kim Christmas. I have a couple of her designs coming up in the fall, they are so much fun to paint.

Yeah! The sun is shining today. I went and got a Tim Hortons coffee and took some painting magazines and sat on the deck for a while. I have decided that it is time to get my tole painting business back in order as the new fall season is coming. I have also decided this it is time to stop holding on to all those projects that keep piling up because I might want to paint them one day. Oh heck! If I live to be 800 I will still never get them all done. So, I am going to have a sale. Of course, all my students will get first pick at all the goodies. What a job going through it all and finding the matching patterns. I have always gone on the theory that it takes "7 years to cure" before it can be painted LOL, but I am really starting to question that theory.

I got a new printer today. I have been holding out until all the ink was gone as it was too expensive to just waste. How nice it was to print pictures, in color, with no lines through them. Yippee! It did not take much to get me excited today LOL.

Well, I think summer is actually over but that is ok, I like fall best anyway. My home reno's are coming along, my cupboards are still "almost finished" LOL. We removed a railing and had to retile the floor in one spot but it now makes the kitchen feel so much more open. I love it.

I have been fighting with Home Depot over my countertop that was installed 2 years ago, it was lifting and they repaired it a year ago and it is still lifting and looks like crap where it was repaired. To my surprise it finally got looked at yesterday and they are willing to replace it. This is good news although I am not doing my happydance until the work has actually been done.

I am still working on my class pieces for fall, I have posted some of the upcoming classes on my website but the dates and times are still TBA.

Here is another fall piece (Renee Mullins) that I painted, I think I will dress up his basket a bit more, maybe I will even paint it.

Well, the sun has stayed out for 3 whole days now. My new roof is finished but my kitchen is still in the works. I just had the doors to finish now. Did I mention that this is the 4th time that I have changed the color or my cabinets? Someone smack me if I try to do this again LOL.

Hubby has one day left of his holidays, he has been home with me for the past 2 weeks. We actually had a great time, we got a lot done and spent some great time together.

The weather changed when I painted and posted my "sparkles" scarecrow so I wonder what will happen when I post my latest class piece .. LOL. This is a Susan Kelley piece painted on a 29" barrel stave. If my students are intereseted in painting this piece, please let me know so I can order lots of staves.

Finally, a sunny day. This week has been a very gloomy wet week, and today is the first I have seen the sun since Sunday. I have been busy painting my kitchen cupboards, each cupboard takes 4 - 5 coats of paint. I am changing them from a dark burgundy to a cream color. I have to bottom completely done and am now working on the top. Since today is the first nice day, my roof is being replaced, the shingles have been sitting up there for over a week waiting for a good day. It is very noisy today so no painting until tonight. Today is my Friday night painting group in my studio. It is so much fun to paint with a group.

Fall is in the air!

Well, at least here in Calgary. It seems that we have only 3 seasons. Summer is a few weeks in July and early August, Fall starts in August and runs through to November, then there is the rest of the year. The rest of the years consists of cold, rain, snow and oddly enough, sunshine.

I get in the mood for fall in August, I can almost smell it. We will still have hot summer days but then overnight it will change and the mornings will be crisp, the afternoons hot and the evenings cool. I love it! In between my home reno's, I have managed to paint up my first fall project, this is "Sparkles the scarecrow", he is a Terrye French design. I love Terrye's designs, they are fun, whimsical and so primitive.

Wow, what a busy weekend. Lots of little reno's on the go. We have installed new cabinets above the washer and dryer, new ceiling fans and kitchen lighting, a new screen door and have just ripped out the railing spearating the kitchen and the family room. Now we have to fix the floor. I am still painting my kitchen cabinets but it has been too hot so the paint was drying too quickly so had to take a break. It is lots of work but lots of fun.

It has been a busy few days. I havn't been painting any projects but I have been painting walls and cupboards. I am having a handyman come in and finish all those "little jobs" that have needed to be done for a while so now I am inspired to repaint. I am really excited to finally get my kitchen cupboards capped with crown moulding and this has me painting them a nice country white. It is lots of work but it will be worth it. The first of my kitchen tasks was to repaint an old cabinet that I had so I painted in black and then distressed it. I really love the country/primitives look so hope I get the right mix when I am done.

What a nice relaxing day it was today, it was warm and sunny although a bit windy, but nice.

Finally the sun is shining, for a couple days at least. This week has been like Christmas, literally as it has been so cold. But really, the christmasy part is the package I recieved from Cabin Crafters, lots of new goodies and books. I am so into painting for halloween and christmas right now.

Today I had a great afternoon with my former co-workers, we had lunch on the patio then we had to retreat inside as it started to rain again. The weather has kept me cooped up for the past couple days, sneaking outside when the sun was out then back in when it rained. I am still working on my class pieces for the fall and managed to finish another piece. I love painting Renee Mullins projects as they are so much fun and make for a great class. I did discover my new favorite brush with this project and it is a 1\4" angle shader. I just lovet his little brush.

Today has been a quiet day, it keeps looking like it is going to rain but I have hopes that it will hold off until after my BBQ. My daughter and her boyfriend are coming for supper, she does not get BBQ in San Francisco so is quite excited and will settle for nothing less.

I managed to finish another winter piece, this one is for the xmas craft sale that I do every November in Vernon, BC. He turned out quite cute.

It is the second day of the Calgary Stampede and true to form a storm is blowing in. My daughter came home from San Francisco for the weekend and has absconded with my car for a couple days. Being stuck at home made for a great day to finish up my latest class pieces for the fall.

I have created this blog so that my students can all get to know me a little better. My hobby is decorative painting, I teach classes as well as paint for craft sales. I hope to use this blog to share what I am working on and what I am learning. Follow along, this is going to be fun.
